How you're assessed

Two phases of examinations

Your final grade in every course is built from Continuous Internal Assessment and an End Semester Examination, as per the Centre for Online Education's Standard Operating Procedure.

CIA

Continuous Internal Assessment

The internal evaluation component of a course theory examinations, practical assessments, assignments, presentations, projects, or other course-specific evaluation methods. Evaluated by the course faculty, then reviewed and approved by the HoD and designated faculty before marks reach the Office of Examinations.

ESE

End Semester Examination

A proctored, time-bound examination covering the full course syllabus, taken through the LMS. For some courses, the ESE takes the form of a Submission Paper an assignment, project, report, case study, or portfolio submitted in place of a written exam.

Frequently asked questions

Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) is the internal evaluation component of a course, which may include theory examinations, practical assessments, assignments, presentations, projects, or other course-specific evaluation methods.

All CIA components, including theory, practical, and submission-based assessments, are evaluated by the respective course faculty members.

After evaluation, the marks are reviewed and approved by the concerned Head of the Department (HoD) and designated faculty members before being submitted to the Office of Examinations for updating in the official marks card.

Where applicable, departments may allow students to verify their CIA marks before they are submitted to the Office of Examinations. Students will be informed by their respective departments if such a verification process is available.

Students should immediately contact the respective course faculty or the concerned department before the marks are finalized and submitted to the Office of Examinations.

Supplementary examinations provide students who were unable to appear for a scheduled End Semester Examination (ESE) with an opportunity to complete the missed course(s) in accordance with the University's examination regulations.

Students who miss an End Semester Examination can ordinarily appear for the missed course(s) along with the examinations of the subsequent semester, subject to the University's examination schedule and eligibility criteria.

Not necessarily. The supplementary examination system is designed to help students, particularly working professionals, complete pending courses without significantly affecting the prescribed duration of their programme, provided all programme requirements are fulfilled within the stipulated time.

Yes. Dedicated supplementary examination cycles are conducted after the fourth semester for students with pending backlogs, enabling them to complete their programme within the prescribed duration.

The schedule will be communicated through the University's official channels the Learning Management System (LMS), student portal, and official email. Students are expected to choose their dates on the LMS, and the supplementary dates are announced well within the final-semester schedule. Students will also be informed via email or their KP logins.

Students are required to use their KP login to apply for a re-evaluation for their subjects.

A Repeat CIA is a re-attempt of the Continuous Internal Assessment provided only to eligible students as per University regulations. It is conducted within the stipulated timeline notified by the University and follows the same assessment objectives as the original CIA it is meant only for students who were unable to complete their CIA-1 on time.

No. CIA submissions will not be accepted via email under any circumstances. All CIA assignments, assessments, and related submissions must be uploaded through the LMS or the officially prescribed submission platform within the stipulated deadline. Submissions sent by email will be treated as not submitted, except where explicitly approved by designated faculty through an official notification.

Submission Papers are ESE assessments in which students complete and submit assignments, projects, reports, case studies, portfolios, or other prescribed academic work instead of appearing for a time-bound written examination. These are evaluated by the course faculty based on the prescribed assessment criteria and must be uploaded within the timelines and guidelines notified by the University. Late or non-compliant submissions will not be accepted, as per University regulations.
